Grandma wacks robber with saucepan, gets free pots

A Grandma in Ohio fought off four robbers with a saucepan. Unfortunately the police won't give it back.

Ellen Basinski was on the phone with her husband, who is a judge, when the four boys pushed their way into her house.

With quick-thinking she grabbed her favorite saucepan and hit one of the boys over the head with it.

The boys ran, but were later caught.

The police took the saucepan as evidence and Lagasse says she may never get the pan back, which is in his words, "not good."

So he called her up to say he's sending her a brand new ten-piece set of non-stick Emerilware.

The free cookware is being credited to their youngest son Michael, who e-mailed Lagasse saying, quote, "you saved my mom's life."

Go Granny! I wonder what she cooks with her saucepans. I bet it's delicious.

Casino awards burrito finishers with free roller coaster pass

A casino in Las Vegas is selling a two foot long burrito and offering finishers a free roller coaster pass if they can finish it.

The offer comes with a caveat, though: Those who accept the challenge but can't finish "The Bomb" burrito have to take a picture with an extra small, pink T-shirt that says "Weenie."

The NASCAR Cafe at the Sahara Hotel & Casino began selling the cheese-and-guacamole slathered burrito on Thursday for $19.95.

Those who can finish the monstrous entree get it for free, along with two unlimited coaster passes and a T-shirt proclaiming they "Conquered the Bomb."

How delightful for the person that runs the coaster. Eek!

Department store sells slimming shirt

A department store in the UK has started selling a shirt that slims the tummy for men.

A spokeswoman for retailer Selfridges said the store plans to begin stocking the "core precision undershirt," manufactured by Australian firm Equmen, in March, The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.

The undershirt, which is made of polyester, spandex and nylon, is designed to force the wearer's body into a leaner form and correct posture under normal clothing.

"It's a very tight-fitting T-shirt, so it's not like we're asking men to wear a bra. It's quite inoffensive," the spokeswoman said. "We've never stocked male control-wear before, so it will be a test. It may be that women will buy them for men, until men become more familiar with it."

The shirt is expected to sell for around $70!

It's not a bra, it's a slimming camisole. . . . Could you get your husband to wear one?

Chick-Fil-A Cow attacked in Virginia

A Chic-Fil-A cow was attacked recently in Fredricksburg Va.

The victim, dressed as a cow, was standing outside the restaurant when he was approached by a man who yelled at him and pushed him to the ground, according to a release by Fredericksburg Police Department spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe.

She said when another man intervened, the assailant ran away.

I suspect that the chickens probably put a hit out the cow, tired of how he's encouraging people to eat more of their kind.

Couple tries to trade kids for a bird

A couple in Louisiana was caught trying to trade two kids (who were not theirs) for a cockatoo and $175.

Donna Greenwell, who babysits the 5-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl, is also charged in the deal, which was negotiated via telephone.

Paul J. Romero, 46, and Brandy Lynn Romero, 27, had been trying unsuccessfully for years to start a family.

Police say Greenwell offered the kids up for $2000, but when the Romeros couldn't meet the price, a deal was sealed with the pet cockatoo (and $175 for legal fees.)

The kids are now in state custody. Their father has expressed interest in getting custody. The mom is reportedly in Texas.

Why did the mother have these random people watching these kids and why did the father not know about it? Poor kids. I hope they get to live with someone that values them more than a bird.

Will trade ski passes for drugs

A group of guys in California have been arrested for offering to trade lift passes for drugs.

Mono County sheriff's deputies told The Orange County (Calif.) Register Wednesday that the suspects were busted after answering an ad posted on Craigslist.com that offered to swap ticket vouchers for the Mammoth Lakes ski area for narcotics.

Department spokeswoman Shannon Kendall told the Register that the operation netted a pond of marijuana and quantities of cocaine, ecstasy and prescription pills.

Four Orange County residents and two people from San Luis Obispo and Highland Park were arrested Friday and were in jail Wednesday on various drug-related charges.

Note to criminals. Do not use craigslist to facilitate your crime.

Florida bans fish pedicures

The Florida cosmetology board has banned fish pedicures.

The board said salons had been inquiring about its legality and decided to issue the decision before it became a problem.

The treatment is popular in Asia and has spread to some U.S. cities. A client sticks feet, hands or other body parts in a bowl or pool, and the small fish chow down on soft decaying skin.

Texas, Washington, Massachusetts and New Hampshire have also outlawed the practice. A spokeswoman for the Florida board says there's concern because there's no way to disinfect a pool of fish in between uses.

It sounds creepy to me. Fish, eating your feet. Eek!

Rabbit leads officers on low speed chase

A rabbit in the UK successfully evaded officers for twenty minutes leading them to ask for assistance from members of the public.

After spending 10 minutes fruitlessly trying to grab the animal - even resorting to using their jackets as matador capes in a bid to snare the creature - they had to call on eight members of the public to help out.

Pc Jackson said: "After several failed attempts trying to grab the rabbit, we removed our coats to try and cover it with a bullfighting technique. Again this failed.

"Pet-loving members of the public who were passing by saw us struggling and rushed to our assistance. Now, with 10 pairs of hands at the ready, the rabbit's time on the run was coming to an end."

The officers and members of the public pursued it for about 200 yards before it was finally caught.

Pc Jackson added with a smile: "Inquiries are ongoing into unconfirmed reports that Bunny had an accomplice called Clyde who assisted in the hare-brained escape idea."

Did it not occur to these officers to use a carrot? Everyone knows that bunnies love carrots.

Woman goes to jail for lying to get out of a speeding ticket

A woman in the UK has been sentenced to two months in jail for lying to get out of a speeding ticket.

Investigators said Sema Ali, 43, initially told police that she had been speeding -- an offense which carries an $87 fine -- because four men had attempted to run her Renault Megane off the road, The Times of London reported Monday.

Police said Ali then convinced her husband, Mohammed Nawaz, to lie and tell police that someone else was behind the wheel when the speed camera photographed the vehicle in April 2007.

Ali and Nawaz both pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. They were both sentenced to two months in jail, while Ali was also fined $87 for the traffic offense and received three points on her license.

She should of told them that she really really had to go to the bathroom, it would have been more believable. Did they not think that they would be able to see her in the picture from the camera?

Zorro the hippo finds home in sanatation plant

A hippo in South Africa named Zorro has found a new home in a sanitation plant.

Wood said the 4-year-old hippo, named Zorro because of the zigzag scar on his back caused by his father's tusk during a fight, was "happy" in his new surroundings. He is living in the plant's pans — shallow pools once used to store untreated wastewater but made mostly redundant by new technology.

The pans now contain primarily clean water surrounded by grassy areas.

"There are big beautiful pans and lots of grazing," Wood said.

Wood said it is believed that Zorro had been on the run from his father, Brutus when he found the gap in the fence.

Young bull hippos will often get booted out of their herd after challenging the strongest male. In the wild, the young males move off and begin their own herds.

The sewage plant and the wetlands that surround it are part of the False Bay Coastal Park, one of the many nature reserves in a city famous for its flora and fauna. The wetland area is home to the only six hippos in Cape Town, where they were once numerous. The creatures, which are becoming endangered, were reintroduced 30 years ago.

Hippos are known to be violent, and Wood said the pans were being secured so that Zorro could not escape and become a threat to the public.

They're eventually going to capture Zorro and find a new home for him. I hope they find Zorro a girlfriend too.

Naked man tries to go to church, gets tasered

A naked man in Mi who wanted to go to mass because he was having problems with his parents was tasered outside of a church Friday.

The man cursed and verbally abused police before Officer Troy Sierras immobilized him with a Taser, an electronic device that fires barbs causing temporary paralysis.

The man was draped in a blanket and taken to Bay Regional Medical Center for treatment.

It was COLD here in MI here on Friday. Why would anyone go outside naked? Now I would understand if it was July. I'm glad they gave him a blanket.

He was not charged with anything, no word on if he ever got to go to mass.

99 year old man drives 90 miles to work a day

A 99 year old Illinois man commutes 90 miles to work daily to keep himself busy.

A plant watchman and "jack-of-all-trades" at A-Z Industries Inc., of Northbrook, Ill., Fabian commutes to the job in his Buick LeSabre every day from his home in Niles, Ill., despite getting ready to celebrate his 100th birthday next month, The Chicago Tribune reported Saturday.

A bachelor, Fabian says he "just needs to keep busy" at his age and is mainly motivated because of his loyalty to A-Z Industries' owners, the Anixter family.

"Loyalty is No. 1" in what makes for a successful worker, Fabian said, adding, "I think I'm married to the Anixter family."

Wow, I hope that they test him annually for his drivers license.

I guess he didn't like retirement.

Man makes employees eat two day old burgers

A UK buisness man made his employees eat two day old McDonalds burgers after one of them complained about swanky hotel food.

Damon Buffini, 46, the millionaire head of private equity firm Permira, allegedly purchased more than 100 burgers from a London McDonald's and presented the food to employees 48 hours later, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

The Daily Telegraph said the incident took place at the Pennyhill Park hotel. The newspaper said Buffini instructed hotel staff to serve the burgers for dinner during a weeklong company retreat after a partner complained about the hotel's food.
Buffini told the partners during their burger dinner that the meal was meant to remind them of "how lucky they are."

I wonder if they learned their lesson. Somehow I highly doubt it.

A Kansas woman found herself thankful to her hairdresser yesterday when her hair weave stopped a bullet.

She told police she had pulled into the market and saw a man with whom she had recently ended an eight-month relation with inside a car there.

A second man came up to the woman’s window and told her that the ex-boyfriend still loved her, an incident report filed by the Kansas City Police Department said.

The woman told the second man “I don’t love him.”

At that time, the victim heard gunshots and saw her ex-boyfriend walking toward the back of her car firing a handgun.

The victim sped away in her vehicle as her back window shattered, police said.

She returned to the scene a moment later to witness both suspects leaving in their vehicle.

Officers found a bullet in the woman’s hair and said her tightly-woven weave likely stopped the bullet.

Her mother will never tell her that her weave is a waste of money again.

Man tries to steal building

A New York man has been arrested for trying to steal a building.

Lernando Maldonado, 47, of Brooklyn allegedly filed a phony deed with the New York City Finance and Buildings departments and then tried to defraud a lender, the city said in a news release. He now faces numerous charges that could land him behind bars for years, city officials said.

"Stealing a building and using it in an effort to steal more than a million dollars in loan money, as charged here, is about as brazen a scam as can be imagined," city Investigation Department Commissioner Rose Gill Hearn said. "But with a paper trail of phony documents, and a string of charges that can lead to substantial prison terms, the foolishness of the scheme has been exposed."

Maldonado allegedly was able to move his scheme forward because he previously had been president of the property's cooperative board and his name appeared on the original deed. But he hadn't even been a tenant of the building since 1992.

Now that's ballsy. No wonder the mortgage industry is having such problems.

Boy marries dog to keep village safe from tigers

An infant in India was married to a dog to protect his town from tigers.

Around 150 tribespeople performed the ritual recently in a hamlet in the state of Orissa's Jajpur district after the boy, who is under two years old, grew a tooth on his upper gum.

The Munda tribe see such a growth in young children as a bad omen and believe it makes them prone to attacks by tigers and another animals. The tribal god will bless the child and ward off evil spirits after the marriage.

"We performed the marriage because it will overcome any curse that might fall on the child as well on us," the boy's father, Sanarumala Munda, was quoted as saying by a local newspaper.

The groom, Sagula, was carried by his family in procession to the village temple, where a priest solemnized the marriage between Sagula and his bride Jyoti by chanting Sanskrit hymns, a witness said.

The villagers then ate a feast with rich food and alcohol to celebrate.

The dog belongs to the groom's neighbors and was set free to roam around the area after the ceremony. No dowry was exchanged, the witness said, and the boy will still be able to marry a human bride in the future without filing for divorce.

So, if your child is born with bad teeth you need to marry them to a dog to prevent tiger attacks.

Man steals van from thieves

Patrick Rosario, a Washington man upon spying thieves in his house decided he'd stop them from getting away with his stuff by stealing their van.

The 32-year-old, laid-off Washington Mutual manager was in the basement of his Bellevue home Tuesday afternoon when he heard the thieves upstairs. He called 911 as he snuck out of the house and, against the advice of the dispatcher, hopped into the getaway car — a white Ford van that was parked in front of his house, still running — and drove away.

The burglars took off on foot, leaving a pile of televisions, a laptop and a jewelry box by the door. A witness who was visiting a home across the street saw them. According to the detectives' report, "the males looked back ... and appeared startled."

"I wish I could have seen the look on their faces," Rosario told The Seattle Times.

He said he recognizes it probably wasn't the wisest thing to do, but it nevertheless earned him some high-fives from responding officers.

"Two pulled up, and they looked over at me and go, 'You stole their car — way to go, dude. That's awesome,'" Rosario said. "Another told me that I just made her month."

Think the robbers will show up to claim thier vehicle?

Lawer angry about gorila birthday party

A lawyer is upset that a gorilla that went on a rampage injuring two zoo patrons is getting a birthday party.

The zoo celebrated the 16th birthday of Little Joe, a gorilla that injured two people when it escaped in 2003, Monday as part of its "Go Ape Week" festivities, WCVB-TV in Boston reported Tuesday.

Donald Gibson, who represented one of the gorilla's victims during a 2007 civil case against the zoo, accused officials of using the primate's infamy from the attacks as an advertising ploy.

"It's very frustrating to see this particular gorilla -- Little Joe -- used as a marketing tool given what happened," Gibson said.

However, zoo officials said celebrating the birthday of Little Joe, whose finger paint creations were displayed at the zoo during summer 2007, had nothing to do with the 2003 incident.

Happy Birthday to Joe. Gibson, you are mean, every Gorilla deserves a birthday.

Train station bans kissing

A train station in the UK has put up signs banning kissing.

The goal is to stop departing passengers from pulling up in their cars at a crowded drop-off point and pausing to kiss each other farewell.

Virgin Rail says it installed the sign while refurbishing the station after a local business networking group said the place had to become more efficient.

But profit margins may have been a factor, too.

Virgin Rail says that if passengers want to share an embrace before they part company, they should pay to park their cars nearby where they can kiss all they want.

Kisses, $5 an hour.

I can't believe that a goodbye hug or kiss takes that much time.

University deans admits to bike theft

A dean a USF has admitted that he stole a students bike earlier this week. The theft was captured on video and posted on youtube.

In a statement, Rao apologized and said he was trying to help a day laborer who needed transportation.

"I deeply regret this failure in judgment and the unfortunate attention it has generated," he wrote to USF officials. "... I gave a man who does odd jobs for me permission to use a bicycle that was parked at the center. I acted out of compassion for this nearly homeless man; but I failed to consider that the bicycle belonged to someone on our Alzheimer's team."

Rao, who makes $384,000 a year, took the bike on Monday night from a bike parking area on the loading dock of the Johnnie B. Byrd Sr. Alzheimer's Center and Research Institute.

The tape shows a woman riding up and parking her bicycle against a railing at 2 p.m. About 8:50 p.m., a minivan pulls up and Rao and a man get out. They look through some bikes near the railing, pick one and leave with it in the minivan.

Note to Rao, next time you want to do something nice for someone, use your own money or goods to help him.

Stealing an apple from the teacher

An 18 year old Florida student was arrested after he stole an apple figurine from his teacher and refused to give it back.

Officers said the student was playing with a spring and when his teacher confiscated it he took a red, glass apple from the teacher's desk. Officers told him he would face charges if he didn't return the apple.

The student responded, "So what, I'm not leaving without my spring," according to a report.

Officers took a picture of the apple as evidence. The student was released from jail.

Wonder if he thought it was worth it.

Indian company to produce new drink made with cow urine

An Indian company is working on a new formula for a drink that features cow urine.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), or National Volunteer Corps, said the bovine beverage is undergoing laboratory tests for the next 2 to 3 months but did not give a specific date for its commercial release.

The flavor is not yet known, but the RSS said the liquid produced by Hinduism's revered holy cows is being mixed with products such as aloe vera and gooseberry to fight diseases such as diabetes and cancer.

Many Hindus consider cow urine to have medicinal properties and it is often drunk in religious festivals.

The organization, which aims to transform India's secular society and establish the supremacy of a Hindu majority, said it had not decided on a name or a price for the drink.

"Cow urine offers a cure for around 70 to 80 incurable diseases like diabetes. All are curable by cow urine," Om Prakash, the head of the RSS Cow Protection Department, told Reuters by phone.

I don't think I'll be trying that one.

Bishop arrested for helping a child read on the chimney

A bishop in London was arrested after helping his sons onto the chimney to read a book as part of a contest.

Bishop Jonathan Blake, of the Open Episcopal Church, took pictures of his sons Nathan, eight, and Dominic, seven, while they sat on top of their two-storey home.

The children were calmly holding a book called "The Killer Underpants" for a school competition to find the most unusual place where a pupil had read a book.

After a neighbor alerted the police, the clergyman said he was arrested, driven away in a cage in the back of a van and kept overnight in a cell.

"I was taken out in handcuffs in front of the whole neighborhood while my children were in tears," the 52-year-old told Reuters on Thursday. "I was kept in the cells without any information about what was taking place from 7 p.m. until 10 a.m. the following morning.

"I am appalled and incredulous. I would never have imagined in a thousand years that this could have happened." The children were wearing safety harnesses and got on to the chimney via a flat roof at the back of the house in Welling, southeast London, he added.

Sounds like the police went a little crazy. I hope that the kids win the contest.

New York schools get nicer handcufs

Schools in New York are going to try using more friendly velcro handcuffs to restrain out of control kids.

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly has approved the Velcro cuffs as a softer alternative to steel handcuffs, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

School safety officers are expected to receive the alternative cuffs next week and then get two weeks of training on how to use them and when, said Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne.

The alternative cuffs are 22-inch strips of cloth with Velcro fasteners that can be adjusted to fit a child's wrist.

"We would prefer never to use restraints of any kind, but in those rare instances where it may become necessary, we want a softer alternative to conventional handcuffs," Browne said.

How nice of them.

We have a winner for most idiotic school policy.

A Place for Learning has won for the most idiotic school policy. Although it did appear that there was a tie I know that someone (cough my husband) voted at least twice for the second place finisher, No Red Pens Allowed.

Our new poll will be for the scientific discovery that is the least useful.

First we have the scientists that created a Cancer Doll.

Our second contender is the Scientists that have learned to write Really Really Small.

Our third and final contender is the researchers that discovered that Teenagers have to Much Self Esteem.

Man threatens to clone himself 14 times and raise all the kids on welfare

A man who is upset about Octomom is threatening to clone himself 14 times and raise the kids on welfare.

"I feel like I'm paying for everybody's kids. Women do this sort of crap all the time and I think if a man did it, welfare would wind up being better regulated ", states Gerard "Big Red" White.

He says that he will clone himself if Octomom Nadya Suleman gets fame and fortune from her fourteen children.

He will reconsider however if people buy him a beer.

Worlds Longest Fingernails Broken

A Salt Lake City Woman who had the worlds longest fingernails broke them in a car crash.

Redmond had serious injuries after being ejected from her SUV but they were not life threatening.

Each fingernail measured approximately 30 inches long and hadn’t been cut since 1979. The longest nail was her right thumb at 2 feet 11 inches.
Despite the insane length of her nails, she insists it doesn’t prevent her from carrying out every day tasks such as vacuming, driving and cleaning.

Redmond also cares for her husband who has suffered from Alzheimer’s for the past six years.

She was once offered $100,000 to cut her nails but never nailed down a time to to so.

She is currently hospitalized and listed in serious condition.

Wow, those are some fingernails. I can't imagine it's easy to wash your hair with nails like that. They kind of look like something crazy from a comic book.

Truck steals itself

A man who called police to notify them that his car had been stolen was surprised to find that it had stolen itself.

Michael Otero said he left the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked when he exited the red pickup truck to enter a 7-Eleven store Sunday in Laguna Beach, so he feared the worst when he came out of the store to find no trace of his vehicle, the Orange County (Calif.) Register reported Thursday.

Otero said police arrived and screened surveillance camera footage to find a most improbable explanation for the mystery. The video shows the manual transmission truck -- which Otero said had been put into first gear with the parking brake on -- rolling in reverse from its parking space and heading toward the street until it curved and slid into an empty parking spot in an adjacent lot.

"I'm just cracking up," Otero said. "I just thank God it didn't hurt anyone."

Otero said the truck received only minor damage from hitting a wall when it slid into its new parking space.

He planned to have a mechanic look at it to try to determine why it rolled on its own with the parking brake on and the transmission in gear.

And this is why you never leave your keys in your car.

Cop hit by nude biker

A policeman in Arkansas was trying to stop a naked motorcyclist on a sleeting night when he was led on a chase ending in an accident.

The man stopped abruptly several times in the street and then sped up quickly, until the trooper bumped him on one of the stops.

The report didn't indicate any injuries but both vehicles were damaged.

A witness quoted in the police report said the man was "naked as a jaybird."

Searcy police cited the man for indecent exposure, fleeing and not having a vehicle license. State police are still investigating.

That does not sound comfortable.

Secret Chicken Recipe Moved to Higher Security

The top secret Kentucky Fried Chicken recipe was moved to a more secure location Tuesday.

Nothing went afoul when the recipe was returned from an undisclosed location to KFC's headquarters late Monday in a lockbox handcuffed to the wrist of a security consultant.

KFC President Roger Eaton was visibly relieved when the door to a new electronic safe was shut with the single sheet of yellowing paper stashed inside. "Mission accomplished," he said.

"It was very nerve wracking," Eaton said later of the recipe's hiatus from a vault where it has been kept for decades. "I don't want to be the only president who's lost the recipe."

The recipe is such a tightly held secret that not even Eaton knows its full contents. Only two company executives at any time have access to the recipe. KFC won't release their names or titles, and it uses multiple suppliers who produce and blend the ingredients but know only a part of the entire contents.

"We've very comfortable with the security," Eaton said. "I don't think anyone can break into it."

Just how valuable is the recipe?

Thomas P. Hustad, professor of marketing at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, said the recipe "goes to the core of the identity of the brand." The recipe, along with the man who created it, conjure images for the chain that help set it apart in the minds of customers, he said.

"I would say that the heritage value is just as high for this secret recipe as the stories around the Coke formula," Hustad said by phone Tuesday. "I guess I'd put the two of those at the top of the pyramid."

Dietl said the security measures he installed replaced an "antiquated" system. For years, the recipe was kept in a filing cabinet equipped with two combination locks in the vault.

"The colonel could have used a pry bar to open that thing up," Dietl said.

I'm glad to know the recipe is safe. It would be terrible if terrorists got a hold of the recipe . . . . .

Teenager arrested for candy scam

An Ohio teenager was arrested after he ordered 37,000 worth of candy and charged it to his high school.

Police say the 18-year-old used a Middletown High School purchasing number to place orders for thousands of lollipops and candy bars from Michigan-based The Goodies Factory. It wasn't clear how he accessed the number.

The candy company became suspicious, contacted the school and was told by detectives to send an empty box.

The brilliant teen had the candy delivered to his house where the police arrested him upon receipt of the package.

Scientists create cancer doll

Scientists in Japan have created a doll made out of cancer cells.

The 5mm high figure – which bears a passing resemblance to a jelly baby – was created from liver cancer cells held in place with the help of 100,000 capsules of collagen.

Each capsule was also coated with special cells that secreted a protein which helped bind the 3D structure.

The entity's humorous shape was created with a specially-made mould, but scientists at the University of Tokyo say that the technique has serious medical applications.

Shoji Takeuchi, who led the team at the Institute of Industrial Science, says that it will enable researchers to create a range of structures containing multiple cell types, allowing them to test cancer drugs in environments more closely resembling the human body.

The structures will be more useful than cell collections grown in petri dishes that are not so closely bound, he said.

Well if that doesn't work they can use it to scare little girls.

Police reassigned because of nude pictures

Several police officers in Sweden were reassigned after having a crazy naked party.

Police officials in Gothenburg said the nine officers, all of whom were male, were celebrating at a cabin near Gothenburg after completing supplemental training to serve in special tactical units, Swedish news agency TT reported Monday.

"These are officers with several years of experience. They are between 30 and 40-years-old," said Erik Nord, commander of field duty police officers in Gothenburg.

Nord said a game played at the party involved taking pictures of the officers' nude bodies while holding police-issued sub-machine guns. A male stripper was also in attendance at the party, Nord said.

He said none of the activities at the party were illegal, but they were "inappropriate" and "not acceptable."

"It shows a complete lack of judgment. You can't do what you want when you're off-duty and a policeman," said Nord.

No word as to whether or not the cops looked good in the photos. They have been reassigned to desk duty during the investigation

Twins escape death penalty because of their identical looks

A set of twins in Malaysa has escaped the death penalty because no one can be sure which twin is which.

The 27-year-old twins, R. Sathis Raj and Sabarish Raj, had been charged with trafficking 166 kilos of cannabis and 1.7 kilos of raw opium in 2003. But police had trouble identifying which one was in possession of the drugs.

"This is a very unique case as they are identical twins. Even the DNA evidence could not prove anything as the DNA could be either Sathis' or Sabarish's," said High Court judge Zaharah Ibrahim.

"I can't be calling the wrong twin to enter his defence. I can't be sending the wrong person to the gallows," she said according to the New Straits Times as she acquitted the pair.

The court heard that one of the twins was caught taking a car load of drugs to a house in suburban Kuala Lumpur. After he was apprehended the other twin arrived at the house and was also arrested.

"It is clear that the first twin who was caught was the only one who had access to the house. Therefore, it is impossible for him not to know what was inside the bags," the judge said according to the daily.

However, she said there was reasonable doubt as to which twin had been arrested first. The brothers cried and embraced family members in the court room when the verdict was handed down.

It wasn't me, it was my evil twin!

Man calls 911 because there is no lemonade

A Florida man was arrested after he called 911 to report that a restaurant was out of lemonade.

Boynton Beach police charged Jean Fortune with misusing emergency services for his alleged phone call Saturday in which he complained about that lack of his preferred beverage at a local Burger King, The Palm Beach Post reported Sunday.

An arrest report alleges Fortune became upset upon learning the fast-food restaurant was out of lemonade.

After a drive-through employee failed to respond to Fortune's threat of contacting the police, the upset diner called 911, the report alleges.

When a police officer showed up and talked to all involved he issued a citation to the man to appear in court.

The race that makes you gain weight

Racers in North Carolina raced two miles to a doughnut shop where they then ate two dozen glazed doughnuts and then raced back to the start.

That's 2,400 calories and 144 grams of fat consumed while burning about 400 calories during the run.

The student-run Krispy Kreme Challenge raised about $35,000 for the North Carolina Children's Hospital.

The event began on a dare among college friends in 2004. Then-freshman Ben Gaddy won the first race by beating nine guys in about a half-hour.

That sounds terrible. I bet it's a hit with the frat boy crowd.

Man uses Klingon weapon to rob store

A man in Colorado Springs was seen robbing several gas stations with a Klingon sword.

Both clerks described the weapon as a Star Trek Klingon-type sword, called a "bat'leth."Neither clerk was injured in the robberies.

The Startrek.com Web site describes the Klingon weapon as crescent-shaped and about a yard long. However, the weapon that the man was wielding appears to be smaller than that. The bat'leth has points on both ends, two points in between and a handle on the outside.

Police said they don't know if the sword used by the robber was made of metal.

They do however, know that the robber is weird.

NY Prostitute takes credit cards from bankers

A New York prostitute told ABC news that she regularly took corporate credit cards from bankers.

Wall street lawyers, investment bankers, CEOs and media executives often used corporate credit cards to pay for $2,000 an hour prostitutes, according to the madam who ran one of New York's biggest and most expensive escort services until it was busted last year.

But prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney's office chose not to pursue any of the corporate titans, says Kristin Davis, who pleaded guilty last year to charges of running a prostitution business that used more than a hundred women.

"They showed no interest," said Davis in an interview for broadcast Friday on the ABC News program 20/20.

"Some of these guys, I was invoicing on corporate credit cards," she said. "I was writing up monthly bills for computer consulting, construction expenses, all of these things, I was invoicing them monthly so they could get it by their accountants," Davis said.

Now that's nice. Hopefully they get our tax dollars back for those deductions.

Vampyre political canidate threatens ex-girlfriend

A political candidate who calls himself a vampyre was arrested for harassing his ex-girlfriend who broke up with him by telling him that she was a vampire hunter.

John Alfred Sharkey, 44, of Toms River, N.J., was held in the Olmsted County jail Wednesday in lieu of $125,000 bail. He was charged last summer, but didn't appear in court until last month after he was arrested on a warrant.

Sharkey, who calls himself the "The Impaler," ran as the Vampyres, Witches and Pagans party candidate for Minnesota governor in 2006, when he listed Princeton, Minn., as his address.

The criminal complaint says he was running for president in 2007 when the 16-year-old Rochester girl wrote a message of support on his MySpace page. She told police they began dating online, and the threats began when she tried to break off the relationship.

She told police that "in a desperate attempt" to get him to leave her alone, she had e-mailed him that she was a member of an elite vampire hunter society and that continuing their relationship would put him in danger. Her father told police he talked to Sharkey, but Sharkey continued to call the girl and write letters to her parents.

There's a Vampres, Witches and Pagans party in Minnesota? How do they get enough signatures to get on the ballot?

Giant rat has free speech rights

The New Jersey Supreme Court has declared that large inflatable rats have free speech rights.

In a case that pitted an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union local against a central Jersey town, the high court ruled unanimously that the rodent is protected speech under the First Amendment.

"The township's elimination of an entire medium of expression without a readily available alternative renders the ordinance overbroad," Justice John E. Wallace Jr. wrote for the court.

The super-sized rat, sitting on its hind legs and bearing fangs, is a national symbol used by organized labor to signal a labor dispute. It had been blown up and displayed at a 2005 labor event in Lawrence Township until police enforced a law that bans banners, streamers and inflatable signs, except those announcing grand openings.

The township claimed the union's use of the rat was a form of commercial speech, less deserving of First Amendment protections.

The state Supreme Court found that the law wasn't neutral, and therefore was unconstitutional. It said an ordinance "that prohibits a union from displaying a rat balloon, while at the same time authorizing a similar display as part of a grand opening, is content-based."

Yay giant ugly rat! I guess

Man arrested for PDA with a blow up doll

A man in Florida has been arrested for fondling a blow up doll in a supermarket parking lot.

George Bartusek was sitting in his car Wednesday outside a Publix with the dolls."As I walk by I saw this guy with two blow-up dolls -- kissing them and bouncing them and trying to get people's attention," said a witness.

Another customer saw what was happening and ran inside the grocery store to get the manager while someone else called police."It's just crazy, you know, and I'm with my daughter and she couldn't believe what we were seeing," said witness Arthur Castro.

This is so not going to help him get a girlfriend.

Text messanging for toddlers

LeapFrog has created a blackberry for toddlers.

The LeapFrog Text & Learn, which is scheduled to arrive in U.S. stores this summer, is modeled after a personal digital assistant and allows children to practice spelling and computer skills with games that emulate text messaging, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

"Busy 3-year-olds will love to 'play' like their parents do," LeapFrog wrote in the description for the $21.99 toy.

No word as to if the toy will teach toddlers how to spell using text language and smileys ;) .

Woman breaks world record for largest breasts

A Texas woman has broken a world record for the biggest breast implants, 38KKK.

The 28-year-old, a Texas housewive, has had nine operations to get her up to this size.

She traveled to Brazil to get her last procedure which took her from an FFF to a KKK after Texas officials refused to do it, for fear that her breasts could explode.

Hershey, from Houston, said: "To me, big is beautiful. I don't think I have anything to worry about."

Hershey is now in record books for having the biggest breast implants ever.

I wonder if she's able to swim to the bottom of a pool. Those things look like flotation devices.

Is that a pigeon in your pants or are you happy to see me?

A traveler in Australia was caught trying to smuggle (among other things) two live pigeons in his pants.

The 23-year-old man was searched after authorities discovered two eggs in a vitamin container in his luggage, said Richard Janeczko, national investigations manager for the Customs Service.

They found the pigeons wrapped in padded envelopes and held to each of the man's legs with a pair of tights, according to a statement released by the agency. Officials also seized seeds in his money belt and an undeclared eggplant.

Not sure which is weirder. The pigeon or the eggplant.

Man found in chimney has no idea how he got there

A Vermont man rescued by fire fighters from a chimney has no idea how he got into the chimney.

Assistant Fire Marshal Thomas Middleton said police were called early Sunday by a woman who said she heard someone yelling for help near 144 Church Street.

They followed the voice — and footprints on a snowy roof — to find the unidentified man in a chimney. He told them he didn't know how he got there. He was stuck in the chimney for about four hours.

First, they tried to pull him out with a rope, but it didn't work.

Then they had to disassemble part of the chimney to get to the man, whose name isn't being released.

Perhaps he thought it was Christmas Eve.

Baby born with 12 perfectly formed fingers and toes

A baby in California has been born with 12 fingers and 12 toes.

According to doctors at the Saint Luke's Hospital in San Francisco, a perfectly healthy baby with extra fingers and toes was born three weeks ago, to Kris Hubbard and Miryoki Gross of Dale City.

“Nurses and doctors, looked so normal they couldn't tell, they told me he was six pounds in good health, that was all they said,” said Miryoki Gross. Nobody initially took notice of the abnormality in the baby, until his father pointed it out.

The condition of having extra digits is called polydactyly and has a genetic origin. Though it is not a very uncommon trait, it was special in the case of Baby Kamani Hubbard since all his 12 fingers are fully developed and functional, as are the toes.
Usually, the extra digits in cases of polydactyly are vestigial and do not serve any function.

The condition has been running in Kamani Hubbard's paternal family. “Some family members have had six fingers, not completely developed,” said his father, Kris Hubbard, adding that six toes had never cropped up before, in his family.

Mostly, cases of polydactyly are surgically corrected. Kris Hubbard himself had nubs of sixth fingers, which were removed during his early childhood.

But the perfect development and functionality of the fingers in Kamani Hubbard's case is intriguing and the doctors are now in a dilemma over their surgical removal.

“I would be tempted to leave those fingers in place. I realize children would tease each other over the slightest things, and having extra digits on each hand is more than slight,” said Dr. Michael Treece, a Pediatrician at St. Luke's Hospital. “But imagine what sort of a pianist a 12-fingered person would be imagine what sort of a flamenco guitarist, if nothing else think of their typing skills.”

So would you keep the extra toes and fingers if this was your child?

Sign hackers are at it again

Motorists were confused (or terrified) when a road sign told them that raptors were ahead.

The sign, which read "Raptors Ahead Caution," amused motorists in a construction zone on Keystone Avenue, just north of 116th Street.

"It's kind of crazy. I'm totally confused," said one motorist. "I'm kind of expecting … dinosaurs to run down the road, or something."Another puzzled motorist said, "Which raptors?" before adding that he hadn't seen the sign.Carmel spokeswoman Nancy Heck said the signs on Keystone Avenue are owned by a contractor, Highway Technologies, which is responsible for programming signs in the Keystone Avenue construction zone.

Giggle.

There are instructions on how to hack road signs on the internet. While funny, reprogramming signs is illegal.

Old John is dead, survived by the sink and urinal

John, a toilet killed in an accidental restaurant shooting has been laid to rest in Utah.

The toilet was shattered by a bullet Jan. 12 when a man's gun fell from its holster as he was pulling up his pants, police said. Police do not plan to file criminal charges in connection with the incident.

Christian Martinez, manager of the Carl's Jr. where John was gunned down, held a memorial service Friday at the restaurant. He gave away bottles of John's favorite toilet cleaner, Kaboom Bowl Blaster, to the eatery's first 50 patrons.

A Bountiful flower shop provided a large floral arrangement.

"In all my years, I can say without a doubt that I have never delivered for a toilet," said deliveryman Doug Graham, "but I thought it was the funniest thing I've ever heard. I got a kick out of it."

Remnants of John hit and cut the gun owner's arm, but he was not seriously injured.

Police blamed John's death on the gun and style of holster the man was using.

"He was survived by the men's urinal and wash sink," said Martinez. "He left us way too soon."

This is a sad occasion for everyone. I hope that his replacement can fufil his duties as well as he can. Please leave your well wishes in the comments section.

Scientists figure out how to write really really small

Scientists in California have figured out how to write really really small.

Two Stanford University physicists have succeeded in writing two letters -- an "S" and a "U," in honor of their employer -- small enough that if used to print out the 32-volume set of Encyclopedia Britannica 2,000 times, the contents would fit on the head of a pin, the San Jose Mercury News reported Sunday.

The nanoscribes, Hari Manoharan and Chris Moon, say the accomplishment, in which they used electron beam lithography, has no practical purpose but proves that information can be stored at small sizes below the level of the atom, giving theoretical backing to continued efforts to reduce the amount of time and space necessary for computers to store and retrieve data, the newspaper said.

Attention Stanford Students and Donors: Your money is going to pay for things that have no practical purpose. Why create new technology or find cures to medical problems when you can create something with no practical purpose.
