Girl falls asleep, wakes up covered in stars

A Belgian girl is suing her tattoo artist. She claims that she asked for three stars on her face and then she fell asleep during the procedure (because getting a tattoo is so relaxing) and woke up with fifty six stars.

Kimberley Vlaeminck, 18, said she fell asleep during the procedure.

"I woke up when he was starting to tattoo my nose... I counted 56 stars, it is frightening," she said.

Tattoo artist Rouslan Toumaniantz, who is Romanian, said his client did not fall asleep and she got exactly what she had ordered.

He rejects Ms Vlaeminck's claim he had misunderstood what she had asked for.

"She was awake and looked in the mirror several times as the procedure was being done," said Mr Toumaniantz, who works at Tattoo Box in Kortrijk.

He says his client only regretted the tattoos later.

"She agreed, but when her father saw it, the trouble started," Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws quoted Mr Toumaniantz as saying.

So, what do you think? I think she's just having buyers remorse. How do you not notice that you're getting that many tattoos?

Mom released from Thai jail after stealing a bar mat

An Australian woman has been released from jail and a possible five year sentence after allegedly stealing a bar mat like the one on the left.

Ms Smoel, who had faced a possible five years in jail for allegedly stealing a bar mat, has been given a six-month suspended jail term and a 1000 baht ($38) fine for theft.

Officials at the Phuket Provincial Court said Ms Smoel was initially sentenced to six months' jail but the sentenced was suspended after she pleaded guilty in court.

The officials said Ms Smoel was also placed on a two-year good behaviour bond.

They said Ms Smoel's passport and other documents, initially held with the Thai Police and immigration, were to be returned to her.

It said if the mother of four does not commit any crime in Thailand for the year, her jail term will not have to be served.

Before the court case, which was called at no notice, Ms Smoel had told journalists she was feeling the strain.

"(I'm) not real well, not real well. I'm tired, I'm exhausted and I'm scared," she said.

Ms Smoel's lawyer in Australia, Bernard Murphy, said he was encouraged by the developments, but remained cautious.

"There have been some very good developments today but I'm reluctant to say anything until Annice is on a plane and on her way home," Mr Murphy said.

"The most important thing for us to do is to get her home."

Ms Smoel was arrested on May 2 for allegedly stealing the bar mat from the Aussie Bar in Phuket where she was celebrating her mother's 60th birthday.

She spent four days in a cramped jail cell with three other women and had been told she could have had to wait 14 weeks before her case came to court.

Ms Smoel claimed her friends had put the bar mat in her handbag as a practical joke.

This is why it's not a good idea to get really drunk in a foreign country. Epically one with harsh sentencing laws. She obviously never saw that movie with Claire Daines.

San Fransisco bars overrun with snuggies

Over two hundred people showed up for a San Fransisco pub crawl wearing snuggies, blankets with arms.

Keith Charles F., 25 (he said he preferred to not give his last name to the newspaper), and Patricia Prislin, 24, said they met on social networking Web site Yelp and started talking about a recent Snuggie pub crawl in Chicago and the possibility of starting a Snuggie event closer to home, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday.

The pair said they didn't just ask people to show up in their Snuggies, they offered costume competitions for best male, best female, best group, best couple and sluttiest Snuggie.

"We kept moving the date back because people were not going to get their Snuggies in time," Keith Charles said to the newspaper before the event. "Don't tell anyone but I got a red one off of eBay."

I bed everyone was warm and comfortable, yet able to easily move their arms.

Man gets drunk and thinks he's a dog

It took six police officers to restrain a drunk man in Florida. The man was growling and biting like a dog.

Eric Marusak, 37, of New Port Richey was ordered held without bail for driving drunk, violently resisting an officer, battery on an officer and habitually driving with a suspended license, The St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Sunday.

Marusak's arrest record of previous skirmishes with police is 18 pages long, police said. Marusak was arrested Saturday after running his car into a chain-link fence on U.S. Route 19.

"I'm wrecked, dude. I got a suspended license," Marusak allegedly told the officer who witnessed the crash.

Once in the police cruiser, Marusak allegedly kicked the officer in the crotch, spit on him and tried to bite the officer twice while growling and barking like a dog, police said.

Marusak's kicking allegedly bent the cruiser door and caused more than $1,000 worth of damage to the cruiser's frame.

I think he should go to jail.

No firing drunk workers in Peru

A top court in Peru has ruled that employers can not fire workers for being drunk on the job.

The Constitutional Tribunal ordered that Pablo Cayo be given his job back as a janitor for the municipality of Chorrillos, which fired him for being intoxicated at work.

The firing was excessive because even though Cayo was drunk, he did not offend or hurt anybody, Fernando Calle, one of the justices, said on Wednesday.

Remind me to stay out of taxicabs in Peru and away from construction sites. . .

Man sues United because they got him so drunk he hit his wife

A man is suing United Airlines after he got so drunk he hit his wife while going through customs. He claims that it's the airlines fault because they allowed him to get drunk enough that he lost control of himself.

Shimamoto claims it was the multiple glasses of Burgundy, served at 20 minute intervals, which led him to strike his wife Ayisha, while the couple were walking through customs in December 2006.

In a lawsuit filed at the US District Court in Tampa, Florida, he claims the wine left him so drunk that "he could not manage himself".

Jean Medina, of United said: "We believe that a lawsuit that suggests that we are somehow responsible for the consequences of a passenger's physical assault on his own wife is without any merit whatsoever."

I'm siding with United on this one.

Man stops drunk driver with paintball

A man in Washington state told police that he was shooting off his paintball gun to prevent his friend from driving drunk.

Lattin said investigators arrived at the apartment complex to find Shawn Wallace, 41, firing paintballs at the windshield of a friend's car. He said Wallace, who was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully discharging a weapon and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant, told officers he was covering the windshield in paintballs to prevent its owner from driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said that using a paintball gun to
prevent drunk driving is inventive but not legal.

I wonder if that was the real reason or if the man just cooked up a good story after the police showed up.

No drunkenness for teachers in Britian

A new teacher code in Britian could give teachers disciplinary action for being drunk and disorderly on their own time.

A new code of conduct, published in draft form yesterday, says teachers could face sanctions if they damage "public trust and confidence" in their profession.

Keith Bartley, chief executive of the General Teaching Council for England (GTC), the profession's watchdog, said teachers needed to "consider their place in society", and act as role models.

When asked what the watchdog would do if teachers were drunk and rowdy at the weekend, Bartley said the GTC would look at the individual circumstances before deciding if they should face disciplinary tribunals.

Teachers didn't have to be exemplary citizens every second, Bartley said. Nevertheless, their behaviour could be "lawful but not acceptable".

This is just absurd. I'm all for encouraging teachers to act nicely but what does it matter if there are no students around? No teacher should lose their job because of somthing they did legally on the weekend away from kids. Teachers have as much right to get drunk as everyone else.

The code also insists that teachers report suspected abuse and from using school computers for non-school interests.
